These maps partially illustrate results of two studies executed for NGO “Green Wave” and urban research project "ЛУН місто" (LUN city). The aim of the studies was to show importance of trees in city cooling during the hot summer days.

The first map shows average surface temperature across living districts derived from Landsat-8 satellite image captured in the hot day. The second map shows percentage of the area covered by vegetation in each living district calculated from Sentinel-2 satellite image.

The results show strong relationships between the greening level and the temperature. The hottest areas in Kyiv are in the new districts where optimal the greening is not kept.
